A WhatsApp checker answers one question: does this phone number have a WhatsApp account? There are four common ways to find out, and the right one depends on whether you are checking one number or ten thousand.
Method 1: the wa.me link (one number, free)
WhatsApp’s click-to-chat link has the form https://wa.me/ followed by the full international number, with no plus sign, spaces or dashes. Open it on a phone or browser. If a chat can be opened, the number is on WhatsApp; if WhatsApp says the number is not available, it is not registered or the format is wrong. It does not save the contact and does not message the person, but it is manual and unusable for lists.
Method 2: the WhatsApp app (one number, free)
In the app, start a new chat and search the number or open the new-contact screen and enter it. WhatsApp shows whether the number is on WhatsApp. Cancel without saving. Again, one number at a time.
Method 3: browser or extension tools (small lists)
Some tools check numbers through a WhatsApp Web session that you connect. They can work for small lists, but they use your own session, run slowly with pauses and may put the connected number at risk if used aggressively. Read the tool’s terms.
Method 4: a bulk WhatsApp checker (real lists)
A bulk checker accepts a file, runs it in the background and returns a downloadable result. This is what to use for a customer list. Look for these features before you pay:
- CSV or TXT upload and a downloadable result.
- Clear statement of what is returned (registered only, or also activity or Business flags).
- No need to connect your own WhatsApp account or SIM.
- A pricing unit you can compare (per number or per 10K) and how failed checks are billed.
- A privacy policy that says how long your list is kept.
- A consent-first stance (no scraping or sale of contacts).
Quick comparison
| Method | Best for | Scale | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| wa.me link | One-off check | 1 number | Free |
| WhatsApp app | One-off check | 1 number | Free |
| Browser tool | Small lists | Hundreds | Free or subscription |
| Bulk checker | Customer lists | Thousands and up | Per number or per pack |
What a WhatsApp checker cannot do
It cannot tell you who a number belongs to, whether the person wants your message or whether they will read it. It also cannot override WhatsApp’s policies: you still need valid opt-in before you send marketing or notification messages. See consent-based WhatsApp outreach.
Where WaleadGoal fits
WaleadGoal is a bulk, consent-based checker. You register free, add credits (10K packs from $5), upload your own list and download which numbers are live on WhatsApp. It does not need your WhatsApp account or the WhatsApp Business API because it is not a sender.
What WaleadGoal does (and does not do)
WaleadGoal is a consent-based number filter and checker. You register for free, add credits (a 10,000-number pack starts from $5; 50K and 100K packs are available inside Add Balance and cost less per number), upload a list you already have permission to contact, and see which numbers are live. Credits are per service, so WhatsApp credits are used for the WhatsApp filter and other checkers have their own balance. It is a checker, not a sender: you do not need the WhatsApp Business API, and you message your opted-in contacts with your own tools afterwards.
It does not sell or supply contacts, it does not scrape, and it does not promise 100% accuracy. Spam and unsolicited messaging are banned and you stay responsible for valid opt-in on every number you upload. See the User Guide for the exact steps, or go back to the homepage for current prices.
